Already on its longest winning run in the young franchise’s history, the outspoken coach is hoping that Lady Luck will continue to smile the Road Warriors’ way as they brace for the dangerous Kia squad Wednesday in the 2015 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Nabbing big wins over San Miguel, Meralco, Ginebra and GlobalPort, Fernandez is already on a high after getting memorable outings from import Al Thornton and gunner Niño Canaleta.
“Hopefully, the GlobalPort win will get us over the hump to really work hard again for our next two games,” said Fernandez, whose wards overcame the handicap of not knowing the abilities of Batang Pier reinforcement Derrick Caracter. “It’s a really good indication for us and helps us prepare for (PJ) Ramos.”
He added, “Wednesday will be a big game for us. It will be a tough one again.”
NLEX is still mired in the middle of the pack at 5-4, sitting at solo fifth spot and would like to put itself in the conversation among the league leaders.
Game time is at 4:15 p.m.
The Carnival, meanwhile, is coming off of a 15-day layoff after beating Alaska just before the All-Star break.
Ramos has been an instrumental factor in Kia’s ascent, as they are just on the outside
looking in with their 4-5 card.
“I’m trying to do something with this team that nobody has ever done. This team has never won four games. Hopefully, we could make it to the playoffs and it will be something special,” the towering Puerto Rican said. “That’s my goal: take them to the playoffs and take them far.” (RL)
